Faith formation isn't just a series of classes you graduate from after confirmation! It's a life-long process of exploring, questioning, sharing, experiencing, learning, laughing...well, you get the idea. Here at Grace, we are working hard to make sure everyone has an opportunity to grow in faith--through discussion, learning, and a variety of service and fellowship experiences that open our minds and hearts. You'll find some info on various parts of this ministry below.
Prism includes all of our faith formation opportunities for adults. The name reflects our believe that faith includes many different perspectives--colors, if you will--and the brightest light is created when all of the individual facets come together.
September 17 through November 19 in Adult Forum: Journey Together Faithfully
Journey Together Faithfullyis the three-part study published by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America between 2002 and 2006. The study was designed to guide the ELCA's conversation about homosexuality and the church, and was the foundation for discussion of policies regarding blessing same-gender unions and ordaining of pastors and rostered lay leaders in life-long committed same-gender relationships. (The ELCA took action to approve these proposals at its 2009 Churchwide Assembly.)
In 2015, the leadership of Grace asked Pastor Melody to guide us in a process to decide whether we wish to identify as a Reconciling in Christ congregation. Congregations take on RIC status when they want to publicly communicate that LGBTQI people are welcome in their faith community. Recognizing that faithful people have different understandings and opinions about this, we are undertaking a series of different studies to inform and guide our discernment.
These studies began last September with The Lutheran Course, a seven-week series that led us through foundations of Lutheran theology and practice.
Through this spring and into next fall, we will study all three parts of Journey Together Faithfully. Here's an outline of each of the sessions in each part.
